Sick or Hospitalized Pets:

Sometimes during the course of a pet’s illness, we need to hospitalize the pet for closer monitoring, treatment and care.  We make every effort to keep hospital stays as brief as possible, as we know that you want your friend back at home with you and we want to minimize stress that your pet experiences.  While hospitalized with us, your pet will receive individual care from our team of trained veterinary technicians and our doctors.  Our doctors will keep in touch with you about any changes in the condition of your pet.  You are always welcome to call us to check in, as well.  Visiting is allowed in some cases, depending on the status of your pet and whether we feel it will help his or her recovery.

Boarding:

We board our regular patients only to a maximum of five dogs.  Since space is limited and as room must always be reserved for patients requiring hospitalization, we request that you make reservations as early as possible.  Dogs are exercised twice daily in covered, heated, outdoor runs.  Cats are exercised in the kennel room individually as their compartment is being cleaned.

Dental Care:

Periodontal disease is the number one health problem diagnosed in pets over four years of age and is largely preventable.  Dental infections can lead to heart valve problems and kidney disease, and causes pain and bad breath.  We are pleased to offer dental care with an up-to-date dental unit.  We use the safest anesthetic protocols possible, tailored to the individual pet and perform pre-anesthetic testing and monitoring during anesthesia.

Senior Wellness:

We know how much time you have spent enjoying your pet over the years and we want to help you keep him or her healthy into the golden years.  Dogs that are over age 8 and cats over age 10 are considered seniors.  Many conditions affecting senior dogs and cats come on silently and the pet shows no signs initially.  Your senior pet should be examined at least annually and sometimes more frequently.  We offer senior wellness exams and senior and geriatric blood and urine screens to detect, prevent and treat diseases early.  We are fortunate to be offered screening bloodwork packages from our laboratory with excellent rates on diagnostic wellness testing.  We want to help you keep your pet a comfortable, healthy family member, so be sure to ask us about senior care.

Emergencies:

The hospital is closed after hours and on Sundays and some holidays, but is still attended for feeding, treating and caring for hospitalized animals.  Should you have an emergency outside of our regular hours, there are two clinics within easy driving distance that provide excellent, fully-staffed 24 hour care.  These are:

Cornell University’s Hospital for Animals 607-253-3060

Animal Emergency Clinic in Syracuse  315-446-7933

From 8 AM – 10 PM, Colonial Veterinary Hospital in Ithaca also offers emergency care:

Colonial Veterinary Hospital

(607) 257-3650

Payment policies:

We do our best to keep fees fair and reasonable.  You are encouraged to inquire about fees before services are rendered.  Unless previous arrangements are made, hospital fees must be paid in full at the time of treatment or upon discharge of the patient.   We accept cash, checks, debit, Mastercard, Visa, Discover and Care Credit.
Care Credit is a third-party payment system which allows you to make payments on your pet’s care and can also be used for your own medical care.   You can apply online or by telephone in our office.  Please ask the staff for more information.  We are also happy to help with paperwork for any of the various pet insurances that are available.  Ask us for details.

Treatment plans/estimates:

We are happy to give you a written estimate for any services.  Please realize that it is only an estimate and sometimes unexpected events can change what we do with your pet.  We will keep you informed throughout our treatment process of any major changes to the treatment plan and any associated costs.  Please provide an accurate phone number where we can reach you in the event that we need to call you while your pet is hospitalized with us.

Above all, we at Crossroads want you and your pet to enjoy coming to see us and we want to help you increase the healthy years of your pet’s life!
